HOW MANY PEOPLE HOW MANY DOGS
Released August 16th, 2024.
Hit the Billboard charts Bluegrass Albums at #2 the week of August 31st, 2024.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

"How Many People How Many Dogs" is a barn-burning glimpse into the dystopian world of hard traveling, hard drugs, and hard truths about American society as seen through the lens of frontman Matthew Eden's distinct and hilarious worldview. Train puns and witty one-liners mix with addiction-and-recovery redemption arcs. Century-old spirituals are repurposed into vignettes about the underbelly of New Orleans. Images of societal decay are overlaid with the private hopes of suburban America. Banjos, fiddles, and resonator guitars punctuate each story with blistering solos over the foundation of Matt's signature suitcase drum.
ABOUT THE RECORDING OF THE ALBUM
Yes Ma'am frontman Matthew Edens went into the studio with Flail Records veteran engineer Jesse Payne, intending to do a short 7‚" split with OG folk punk legends the Black Death All Stars. As the recording process started, more and more friends kept showing up and more and more songs emerged. The planned 4 tracks turned into 12 and Yes Ma'am's "How Many People How Many Dogs" was born.
The record shows off the thriving creative community and punk rock ethos of the underground 'Misfits of folk' label Flail Records; the roster of label mates on the album runs deep. Bob from Holy Locust playing bass. Lightnin' Luke, solo artist and Bridge City Sinners member, playing the fiddle. Clyde Mcgee of Clyde & the Milltailers and Bridge City Sinners playing guitar. Libby Lux, also of Sinner's fame, even sang backup and lead vocals on the haunting single "Dead Don't Sleep". To round it all out, Joseph Faison IV, off and on Yes Ma'am banjo player, Flail staff member, and Black Death All Stars frontman stepped in to play banjo and produce the album.
ABOUT YES MA'AM
Born from the swamps and underpasses of the American South, Yes Ma'am merges Depression Era blues, Jazz and Bluegrass with instrumental virtuosity and the raw, emotional storytelling of early punk rock. Matt's soulful voice and authentic stage presence have made him a muse for the traveling community and solidified his legendary status as street-corner royalty. His sound has shaped a generation of musicians, whether he's performing solo or with a rotating ensemble of folk punk's finest. Yes Ma’am is a force that demands attention.
